WHO WE ARE: MISSION & MEETINGS

The Robin Hoods were born of humble beginnings…

​

-July 2020, already weary of Covid-19 restrictions, a group of 10 VDS neighbors gathered  and organized our 1st Annual Turkey Trot, an event where we could come together – outdoors – as a community to meet our neighbors and help the Wimauma community’s migrant workers.  

​

• Turkey Trot, a 5k walk/run/ride through a pre-planned route through VDS along with a Thanksgiving-themed food drive.  Collected a truckload of food items and over 20 turkeys.. 
   

• Rapidly transitioned our efforts to a Children’s Toy Drive, spreading holiday cheer to more than 40 families.​

​-2021 was a big year for us. Quickly realized we needed the entire community’s involvement to accomplish our goals.  

​

• Officially became a VDS Club and chose the name “The Robin Hoods.”  
   

• Learned some valuable lessons, such as most migrant families do not have ovens large enough to roast a whole turkey.  Shifted gears and collected chickens rather than turkeys!

 

-2022, with the continued community and membership growth, the Club became a Florida 501(c)3 organization.

 

• Officially changed our name and status to The Robin Hoods of VDS, Inc.  

​

-2023/24 based on resident feedback, shifted the timing of some of our drives to spread them more evenly throughout the year.  We currently have five main events, scheduled as follows:  
 

1)  Clean Out Your Closet Clothing Drive - Spring, clothing items donated to the Mary & Martha House, which offers a sanctuary of safety and support to women and  the children who have experienced the profound challenges of domestic violence and homelessness.   

2)  Back to School Supply Drive - late Spring -- so schools are ready for their first day of school in August.

3)  Food Drive - Summer, to help provide elementary age children with a healthy lunch when they are no longer getting their school lunches.

4)  Turkey Trot 'Walk, Run or Roll' fundraiser (Fall)

5)  Christmas Toy Drive (late Fall)

We are always working to make a positive impact on the surrounding community. As we continue to grow, we look forward to having you join our Merry Band of volunteers to help those who are in need of basic necessities in any way that you can:

 

• Join the Club to be updated on events; meetings are at 7PM on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Clubhouse.
